Broquiere, Who visited Bursa in 1432, indicated that trade was developed in Bursa bazaars and that all kinds of silk fabric is being sold.

Based on the notes of the Florentine agent Maringhi, who was carrying out activities in Bursa at the beginning of the XVI. Century, the silk goods of Bursa were popular especially in Florence.

Umurbey Silk Production and Design Center is established in order to revive sericulture and silk weaving which is our historical heritage.

As cocoon production started to regress in Bursa and its vicinity as of 1990s, some handicrafts and traditional sericulture has also started to regress.

PRECIOUS BURSA FABRIC IS REVIVING
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has built special mulberry groves in Mountainous Region in order to feed insects and made looms for hand-weaving and has provided employment opportunity for 250 people and enabled re-production of silk fabrics which is known as one of a kind Bursa fabric.
